Disappointment is the difference between what we were __________, and what we ______.
Disappointment with God can lead to _____________ from God
Peter answered him, “We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?” Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. (Matthew 19:27-29)

Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled. But Peter followed him at a distance. (Matthew 26:57-58)

When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. (John 21:15-17)
TALK IT OVER
1) During the message, Curtis said it’s usually the people we trust who disappoint us. Why do you think that’s true?
2) Disappointment is the difference between what we were expecting and what we got. Have you ever been disappointed with God? What were you expecting that you didn’t get?
3) Read Matthew 26:57-58 below and answer question that follows:

Have you ever put distance between you and God because you were disappointed in Him? Share with others in discussion.
4) Peter was able to be close to Jesus again, by accepting that Jesus loved him, and forgave him—despite all of Peter’s disappointment and distancing.

5) Even if you’ve left Jesus, He still wants to be close to you. Jesus wants to know if you still love Him. Spend a moment in private conversation with Jesus, and let Him know you love Him.
THIS WEEK, THINK ABOUT
Peter was disappointed that he didn’t get the life he was expecting. But Jesus had a bigger and better plan than Peter could have ever imagined. How does that make you re-think what God might be doing in your life, even if it hasn’t turned out as you’ve expected?
PRAYER
“Heavenly Father, help remind me that even when things don’t turn out like I planned, you still love me, and you have a plan for me, if I just trust in You. Teach me to replace disappointment and distance with the truth of how much you really do love me.”
