Ordinary People, Extraordinary Power
Sunday Rewind is a 5-day Devotional based on the weekly sermon at Resonate Community Church
May 24th Sermon, Day 2
Look around at the people in your life - your coworkers, neighbors, family members. What do you see? Probably ordinary people living ordinary lives, facing ordinary challenges. Now here's the incredible truth: these are exactly the kind of people God loves to use.
Pentecost wasn't about God choosing the most talented, educated, or influential people of the day. The disciples were fishermen, tax collectors, and everyday folks. Yet when the Holy Spirit filled them, they turned the world upside down. They didn't become extraordinary people; they became ordinary people filled with extraordinary power. This is God's pattern throughout history. He doesn't wait for us to become perfect or impressive. He takes us right where we are - with our fears, limitations, and imperfections - and fills us with His Spirit.
The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to you today, not because you're special, but because God is. Your background doesn't disqualify you. Your past mistakes don't eliminate you. Your current struggles don't sideline you. God specializes in using ordinary people to do extraordinary things when they're filled with His Spirit.
Bible Verse
'But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.' - Acts 1:8
Reflection Question
In what areas of your life do you feel too ordinary or inadequate to be used by God?
Quote
The good news of Pentecost is that God always uses ordinary people by filling them with extraordinary power.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for choosing ordinary people like me. Fill me with Your extraordinary power to accomplish what You've called me to do.
