It’s Not About Personality
Sunday Rewind is a 5-day Devotional based on the weekly sermon at Resonate Community Church
June 7th Sermon, Day 1
Many of us believe that sharing our faith is reserved for the naturally outgoing or eloquent. We think evangelism requires a specific personality type - the bold extrovert who can strike up conversations with strangers. But this couldn't be further from the truth. The early disciples weren't chosen for their communication skills or charismatic personalities. They were ordinary people - fishermen, tax collectors, everyday workers.
What made them extraordinary witnesses wasn't their natural abilities, but something far more powerful. The same Holy Spirit who transformed these ordinary believers is available to you today. Your personality doesn't disqualify you from being used by God. Whether you're naturally shy or outgoing, whether you stumble over words or speak eloquently, the Spirit can work through you. God doesn't need your perfection; He needs your willingness. The gospel has always moved forward through people who simply said yes to God, regardless of their natural temperament or abilities.
Bible Verse
'But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.' - Acts 1:8
Reflection Question
What aspects of your personality do you think disqualify you from sharing your faith, and how might God want to use those very traits for His glory?
Quote
Witnessing for Christ isn't about a personality type. It's about the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, help me see that You don't need my perfection, just my willingness. Give me confidence that You can work through my unique personality to reach others.
