The Promise of Something Greater

Sunday Rewind is a 5-day Devotional based on the weekly sermon at Resonate Community Church

April 19th Sermon, Day 1

Throughout history, God has been preparing His people for something extraordinary. Moses was a faithful servant who delivered God's messages and led Israel out of bondage. He was remarkable, yet he pointed beyond himself to someone greater who would come. God promised Moses that He would raise up a prophet like him, but one who would surpass even Moses' incredible ministry. T

his wasn't just about receiving another teacher or leader - this was about God Himself coming to dwell among His people in a way never before experienced. Every sacrifice, every law, every story in the Old Testament was like an arrow pointing forward to Jesus. When we read about Moses' faithfulness, we're not just learning history; we're seeing God's heart to progressively reveal Himself until the perfect revelation arrived. The anticipation builds throughout Scripture because God had something better in mind - not just rules to follow, but a relationship to embrace.

Bible Verse

'I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in his mouth. He will tell them everything I command him.' - Deuteronomy 18:18

Reflection Question

How does knowing that God has been working throughout history to reveal Himself more fully change your perspective on His faithfulness in your own life?

Quote

Jesus is greater than the Old Testament, but the Old Covenant is essential for understanding Jesus.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness throughout history and for preparing the way for Jesus. Help me to see Your hand at work in my life, knowing that You always have something better in store.
