The Power Behind Love
Sunday Rewind is a 5-day Devotional based on the weekly sermon at Resonate Community Church
July 12th Sermon, Day 5
Jesus was falsely accused. He was mocked, betrayed by His closest friends, and nailed to a cross He did not deserve. And as He hung there, He prayed for the people who put Him there. Father, forgive them. That is not human nature. That is divine grace.
Here is what makes that moment so significant for us: He did not do it through sheer willpower. He did it in the power of the Holy Spirit. And because He did it that way, the same power is available to you. Loving people who are hard to love is not something you are supposed to figure out on your own. It is not a personality trait some people have and others do not. It is something you receive. When you place your faith in Jesus Christ and allow Him to work in you, He cleanses the heart, renews the mind, and reshapes what you desire. Kindness begins to flow not because you are forcing it, but because He is filling you.
Every time you respond to harshness with gentleness, to insults with prayer, to evil with good, you are not just being a nice person. You are showing the world that something has changed in you. You are showing them that Jesus Christ is real, and that He is at work. That is a powerful witness. And it starts with simply saying yes to what He is already offering you.
Bible Verse
"Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless." - James 1:26
Reflection Question
When you consider the way Jesus responded to those who wronged Him, what is one area of your life where you sense God inviting you to respond differently than you have been?
Quote
"He was falsely accused. He was mocked. He was beaten. He was betrayed by his friends. He was nailed to a cross he didn't deserve. And as he hung there, he prayed, Father, please forgive them. That's not human nature. That's divine grace."
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for showing me what grace under pressure actually looks like. Fill me with Your Spirit today so that what flows out of me reflects You, not my own hurt or pride. Amen.
