You Are Already Rescued

July 19th Sermon, Day 1

Most of us know, at least in our heads, that God forgives. But knowing it and actually trusting it are two very different things. If you have ever caught yourself thinking, "I need to get my life together before God can really love me," you are not alone. That struggle is as old as humanity itself.

Here is the truth that changes everything: God's forgiveness is not a reward waiting at the finish line for those who perform well enough. It is a rescue extended to people who are drowning. And every single one of us is drowning without it. Paul writes in Colossians 1 with striking confidence. He does not say God will qualify you or might rescue you. He says God has already done it. Past tense. Completed. Through Jesus Christ, you have been brought out of darkness and into the kingdom of His Son.

That is not a future hope. It is your present reality. You do not have to earn your way to grace. You do not have to punish yourself until you feel worthy of it. The rescue has already happened. All that is left is to reach out and receive it. If you have been exhausting yourself trying to prove something to God, take a breath today. He is not waiting for you to get it together. He already came for you.

Reflection Question

In what area of your life are you still trying to earn something from God that He has already freely given you?

"God's forgiveness isn't a reward for those who can stay afloat. We can't stay afloat on our own. The truth is, every last one of us will drown. God's forgiveness is not the reward. It is the rescue that we all desperately need."

Prayer

Father, thank You for rescuing me before I ever had the strength to rescue myself. Help me to stop striving and start receiving the grace You have already given through Jesus. Amen.
