Let Go and Mean It
Sunday Rewind is a 5-day Devotional based on the weekly sermon at Resonate Community Church
August 30th Sermon, Day 3
There is a difference between setting a burden down and truly releasing it. Most of us have become experts at the first one. We hand our worries over to God in prayer, and then, almost without realizing it, we quietly pick them back up again. But Scripture does not say to gently place your anxiety near Jesus. It says to cast it on Him.
That word carries real weight. It is the image of a fisherman heaving a heavy net with everything he has, with no intention of pulling it back. That kind of release is not passive. It is an act of faith. It is choosing to say, "I trust You with this," and then actually living like you mean it. This is where rest really comes from. Not from circumstances changing, but from genuinely letting go of control. Rest means trusting that Jesus is in control, which means accepting that you are not. And for many of us, that is the hardest part.
But here is the encouragement: you do not have to carry it perfectly. You just have to keep bringing it back to Him. Every time you notice you have picked the burden back up, that is simply another invitation to release it again. He is patient, and He is not keeping score.
Bible Verse
"Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." - 1 Peter 5:7
Reflection Question
Is there a specific worry or burden you keep taking back from God? What would it look like to truly release it today?
Quote
"Truly, truly, fully releasing a burden is an act of faith, isn't it?"
Prayer
Lord, I confess that I often take back what I have given to You. Give me the faith to truly release my burdens and trust that You are holding them. Amen.
