Following a Person, Not a Plan

Sunday Rewind is a 5-day Devotional based on the weekly sermon at Resonate Community Church

August 30th Sermon, Day 2

When life gets hard, our instinct is often to look for answers. We search for the right strategy, the right advice, or the right steps to follow. And while wisdom has its place, there is something deeper that we need when we are truly worn down. We do not just need information. We need someone. This is what makes following Jesus different from following a religion built on rules and principles.

Jesus does not hand you a manual and send you on your way. He says, follow Me. He invites you into a relationship, not a system. When you are exhausted, when you are overwhelmed, when you feel like you are running on empty, a five-step plan will not carry you through. But a person who walks with you, who knows you, and who is for you? That changes everything.

Jesus is not a distant teacher who handed down good advice and moved on. He is present. He is personal. And He is with you right now, in whatever you are facing today. You do not have to figure everything out before you come to Him. You just have to come. Bring your questions, your confusion, your exhaustion. He can handle all of it, and He wants to walk through it with you.

Bible Verse

"But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.'" - 2 Corinthians 12:9

Reflection Question

In what area of your life have you been looking for a plan or a formula when what you actually need is to lean more deeply on Jesus?

Quote

"When you're tired, like we get tired. When you're weary, like we get weary. When you're hurting, you don't need more information. You don't need a five step plan. You need someone."

Prayer

Jesus, remind me today that I am following a person, not a program. Help me to lean on You rather than my own understanding. Amen.
