We Are Waiting Together

September 20th Sermon, Day 5

There is a reason Hebrews 10:25 ends the way it does. After calling believers to gather and encourage one another, the writer adds this: "all the more as you see the Day approaching." That is not a throwaway line. It is the whole point. We are not just gathering because it is a good habit or because community feels nice. We are gathering because we are part of something eternal. We are a people who are waiting, watching, and expecting the return of Jesus Christ.

That changes everything about how we show up for one another. This is not just a social club or a weekly routine. This is a community of people living toward a kingdom that is coming. And until that day arrives, we genuinely need each other. We need encouragement when the road is long. We need correction when we lose our way. We need worship to remind us who is in charge. We need prayer to keep us connected to the One who holds it all together. Belonging to a church is not the same as attending one. Attending asks what you will get. Belonging asks what you can give. And when you belong, you carry one another. You sit beside someone and say, without words or maybe with them, "I am here with you. I am here for you." That is the church. That is what we are called to be for each other, until He comes.

"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching." - Hebrews 10:24-25

How does the reality of Christ's return change the way you think about your commitment to and investment in your faith community?

Jesus, remind me that I am part of something bigger than myself. Help me to show up fully for the people around me as we wait together for Your return. Amen.
