More Than Information

September 20th Sermon, Day 4

We live in an age of incredible access. Sermons, podcasts, devotionals, Bible apps. You can fill your mind with more spiritual content than any generation before you. And that is genuinely a gift. But here is something worth sitting with: information does not automatically produce transformation. You can know more about Jesus without becoming more like Jesus. Knowledge is a starting point, not a finish line.

What actually moves us forward is often not more content. It is relationship. It is the friend who asks the hard question. It is the mentor who sees potential in you that you cannot see in yourself. It is the community that holds you accountable to who you say you want to be. Spiritual growth is deeply personal, but it was never meant to be private. We need other people to reflect back to us what God is doing in our lives, and sometimes to gently point out what is getting in the way. Sometimes you need somebody else's faith to help strengthen yours, and sometimes somebody else needs yours. That exchange only happens in relationship. It cannot be downloaded or streamed. It requires presence, vulnerability, and trust. Do not settle for being educated in your faith when God is inviting you to be transformed by it. Let people in. Let community do what content alone never can.

"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching." - Hebrews 10:24-25

Where in your spiritual life are you relying on information alone, and who is someone you trust enough to invite into that space with you?

Lord, keep me from mistaking knowledge for growth. Surround me with people who will speak truth into my life, and make me willing to listen. Amen.
