Faith That Moves

Sunday Rewind is a 5-day Devotional based on the weekly sermon at Resonate Community Church

October 4th Sermon, Day 1

It is easy to feel like we are doing something when we are really just watching. We scroll past someone's pain, drop a quick comment, and move on. But James, the brother of Jesus, drew a hard line in Scripture. He said that faith without action is dead. Not weak. Not incomplete. Dead.

Think about someone in your life right now who is hurting. Maybe you have already seen something on your phone about them. Maybe you have thought, "I should reach out." That thought is a good start, but it is not the finish line. God did not design faith to stay still. He designed it to move. When faith is alive, it shows up. It knocks on doors, makes phone calls, drops off meals, and sits with people in hard moments. That is not earning God's love. That is responding to it. You do not need a grand gesture. You just need one step. One person. One need. One action.

That is where faith stops being a feeling and starts becoming something real that others can see and touch. You are more capable of making a difference than you might think. God has placed people in your life on purpose, and He has also placed you in theirs. Do not let that opportunity pass by unnoticed. Your faith was made to move.

Bible Verse

"What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, 'Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,' but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." - James 2:14-17

Reflection Question

Is there a need you have already noticed this week that you have responded to only with a thought or a prayer, when you could also take a simple, tangible step?

Quote

"Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead."

Prayer

Lord, forgive me for the times I have let good intentions replace real action. Stir my heart today and give me the courage to move toward someone who needs it. Amen.
