More Than Scrolling

Sunday Rewind is a 5-day Devotional based on the weekly sermon at Resonate Community Church

October 4th Sermon, Day 2

We live in a world where connection has never been easier and yet loneliness has never been more common. We can be more connected digitally and less connected personally, and most of us have felt that tension without quite being able to name it. A screen can show you someone's highlight reel or their cry for help, but it cannot sit with them. It cannot hand them a meal. It cannot look them in the eye and say, "I see you, and I am here." Only a person can do that. Only you can do that.

There is something powerful about physical presence. When you show up for someone, you are communicating something that no post or comment ever could. You are saying that they are worth your time, your energy, and your attention. That is a message that goes straight to the heart. God wired us for real, face-to-face community. He designed us to need each other in ways that technology simply cannot fulfill. And when we step away from the screen and step toward a real person, we are living out something deeply human and deeply holy. Today, consider one person you have been meaning to reach out to. Not with a text. With your presence. Show up. That simple act might mean more to them than you will ever know.

Bible Verse

"What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, 'Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,' but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." - James 2:14-17

Reflection Question

When was the last time you chose presence over a post, and what did that moment of real connection mean to the other person?

Quote

"We can be more connected digitally and less connected personally."

Prayer

God, help me to see the people right in front of me and to choose them over the noise of a screen. Give me the courage to show up in ways that truly matter. Amen.
