Clean Up Not Needed

Sunday Rewind is a 5-day Devotional based on the weekly sermon at Resonate Community Church

November 1st Sermon, Day 2

Most of us have been taught, in one way or another, to put on a good face. We tidy up before guests arrive. We rehearse what we're going to say before an important conversation. And sometimes, without even realizing it, we do the same thing with God. We wait until we feel less angry, less doubtful, or less of a mess before we pray. But look at the Israelites. They didn't come to God with polished prayers. They grumbled. They complained loudly and honestly. And God heard every word of it, and still fed them.

That is remarkable grace. God didn't require them to get their attitude right before He provided. He met them in the middle of their mess. That's what grace is: undeserved, unmerited favor from a God who loves you too much to wait until you have it all together. You are invited to bring your real feelings to God today. The frustration, the fear, the questions you're not sure are okay to ask. He can handle all of it. In fact, He's already heard it. And just like He did for the Israelites, He is ready to respond with provision, not punishment. Come as you are. That's always been the invitation.

Bible Verse

"I have heard the grumbling of the Israelites. Tell them, 'At twilight you will eat meat, and in the morning you will be filled with bread. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God.'" - Exodus 16:12

Reflection Question

What honest feeling or fear have you been holding back from God, and what might change if you brought it to Him exactly as it is?

Quote

"You don't have to clean up your feelings. You don't have to clean up your prayers before you actually pray them."

Prayer

God, thank You for not requiring me to be perfect before I come to You. Help me to bring my real self, my real fears, and my real needs to You today, trusting that You are big enough to handle all of it. Amen.
