April 19th Sermon, Day 5

Moses led the people toward the promised land, but Jesus leads us into eternal life. Moses offered sacrifices, but Jesus became the sacrifice. Moses spoke God's words, but Jesus is the Word made flesh.

The progression is clear - everything was pointing to Jesus, and now everything flows from Jesus. He doesn't just show us the way; He is the way. Following Jesus means more than admiring His teaching - it means surrendering our lives to Him and aligning everything we do with His truth.

This isn't about perfection; it's about direction. It's about listening to His voice, trusting His heart, and following His lead even when the path seems difficult. Moses led people out of Egypt, but Jesus leads us out of sin and into the abundant life God always intended. The question isn't whether we understand everything about following Jesus - the question is whether we're willing to take the next step He's showing us.

Bible Verse

'Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.' - Matthew 7:24

Reflection Question

What is one specific area where Jesus is calling you to move from admiring His teaching to actively following His lead?

Quote

Following Jesus means surrendering your life to him. Not just admiring his teaching, but aligning your life to his teaching.

Prayer

Jesus, I choose to follow You not just with my mind but with my whole life. Lead me forward in trust and obedience to Your perfect will.

Grace That Empowers

April 19th Sermon, Day 4

The standard Jesus sets is admittedly high - too high for any of us to meet on our own. But here's the beautiful difference: Moses could tell people what to do, but Jesus gives us the power to become new. Moses gave the test, but Jesus helps us pass the test and even took our place when we failed.

This is grace in action. Jesus didn't just raise the bar and leave us straining to reach it; He provided everything we need to live the life He calls us to. When we fail, He doesn't condemn us - He covers us. When we're weak, He strengthens us. When we're confused, He guides us. The relationship Jesus offers isn't based on our performance but on His perfect sacrifice. This means we can approach His high standards not with fear and anxiety, but with confidence and hope, knowing that His grace is sufficient for every challenge we face.

Bible Verse

'Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.' - Matthew 11:28

Reflection Question

How can you rely more on Jesus' grace and power rather than your own strength to live out His teachings?

Quote

Moses gave the test, but Jesus helps you and me to pass the test. And he even took our place when we failed. And that's called grace.

Prayer

Jesus, thank You for not just showing me the way but empowering me to walk in it. I trust in Your grace to transform me from the inside out.

Heart Transformation Not Behavior Modification

April 19th Sermon, Day 3

Moses gave us external rules written on stone tablets, but Jesus addresses something much deeper - the condition of our hearts. When Moses said "don't murder," Jesus said "don't harbor hatred." When Moses said "don't commit adultery," Jesus said "guard your thoughts."

This isn't Jesus making things harder; it's Jesus revealing what true righteousness actually looks like. Moses was dealing with the branches on the tree, but Jesus was about transforming the root. External compliance can mask internal rebellion, but Jesus sees through to our motivations, desires, and hidden thoughts. He knows that lasting change must happen from the inside out. This is actually good news because it means Jesus isn't interested in just modifying our behavior - He wants to give us new hearts that naturally produce righteous living. The transformation He offers goes deeper than willpower or self-improvement; it's a complete renewal of who we are at our core.

Bible Verse

'Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.' - Matthew 5:3

Reflection Question

In what areas of your life are you trying to manage external behavior instead of allowing Jesus to transform your heart?

Quote

Moses was dealing with the branches on the tree. Jesus was about transforming the root of the tree.

Prayer

Lord, I don't want just surface-level change in my life. Transform my heart so that righteousness flows naturally from who I am becoming in You.

A New Kind of Authority

Sunday Rewind is a 5-day Devotional based on the weekly sermon at Resonate Community Church

April 19th Sermon, Day 2

When Jesus taught, something was fundamentally different. Moses would say, "Thus says the Lord," but Jesus declared, "But I say to you." This wasn't arrogance - this was divine authority speaking directly. Moses climbed a mountain to receive God's message; Jesus climbed a mountain and delivered God's message as God Himself.

The difference is staggering. Moses was like someone describing the sun, but Jesus is the sun rising. He didn't just know about God's character - He embodied it perfectly. When Jesus spoke about love, forgiveness, and righteousness, He wasn't quoting someone else's wisdom; He was revealing His own heart. This changes everything about how we approach His words. We're not just reading good advice from a wise teacher; we're hearing the very voice of God speaking truth into our lives. His authority isn't borrowed or delegated - it's inherent and absolute.

Bible Verse

'The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.' - Hebrews 1:3

Reflection Question

What difference does it make in your daily life to know that Jesus' words carry the full authority of God Himself?

Quote

Moses walks in as a witness testifying to what God has said. But when Jesus walks in, he doesn't take the witness stand like Moses, no, he sits in the judges stand seat because he doesn't just know the law, he's the law giver.

Prayer

Jesus, I recognize Your divine authority and surrender to Your voice in my life. Help me to listen with reverence and respond with obedience to Your perfect words.

The Promise of Something Greater

Sunday Rewind is a 5-day Devotional based on the weekly sermon at Resonate Community Church

April 19th Sermon, Day 1

Throughout history, God has been preparing His people for something extraordinary. Moses was a faithful servant who delivered God's messages and led Israel out of bondage. He was remarkable, yet he pointed beyond himself to someone greater who would come. God promised Moses that He would raise up a prophet like him, but one who would surpass even Moses' incredible ministry. T

his wasn't just about receiving another teacher or leader - this was about God Himself coming to dwell among His people in a way never before experienced. Every sacrifice, every law, every story in the Old Testament was like an arrow pointing forward to Jesus. When we read about Moses' faithfulness, we're not just learning history; we're seeing God's heart to progressively reveal Himself until the perfect revelation arrived. The anticipation builds throughout Scripture because God had something better in mind - not just rules to follow, but a relationship to embrace.

Bible Verse

'I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in his mouth. He will tell them everything I command him.' - Deuteronomy 18:18

Reflection Question

How does knowing that God has been working throughout history to reveal Himself more fully change your perspective on His faithfulness in your own life?

Quote

Jesus is greater than the Old Testament, but the Old Covenant is essential for understanding Jesus.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness throughout history and for preparing the way for Jesus. Help me to see Your hand at work in my life, knowing that You always have something better in store.
