Stop Trying To Save Yourself

July 19th Sermon, Day 2

There is a deeply human instinct that kicks in when we feel like we have failed. We scramble. We try harder. We make promises. We tell ourselves that if we can just get our act together, then maybe God will be pleased with us again. But that instinct, as natural as it feels, is built on a lie. It assumes God works like the rest of the world, that love and favor must be earned, that grace has a price tag. It does not. And He does not.

Psalm 103 paints a breathtaking picture of just how far God's love and forgiveness actually reach. As high as the heavens are above the earth. As far as the east is from the west. That is not a small, conditional forgiveness. That is an overwhelming, permanent, all-encompassing grace. You do not have to keep swimming against the current. The rescue ring is already there. It has been there. God is not asking you to prove yourself. He is asking you to trust Him enough to let go of your own striving and receive what He has already provided.

Today, notice the moments when you default to self-rescue. When you feel the urge to earn, perform, or punish yourself into worthiness, pause. Remind yourself: the work is already done.

What does your default response to failure reveal about what you truly believe about God's grace?

Prayer

Lord, forgive me for the times I have trusted my own effort more than Your finished work. Teach me to rest in what You have already done and to stop trying to save myself. Amen.
