The Debt Has Been Paid

July 26th Sermon, Day 1

Have you ever paid off a bill, but kept checking your account as if the charge might come back? Many of us do something similar with God. We ask for forgiveness, receive it, and then keep acting like we still owe something. We carry guilt like a balance that never quite reaches zero. But here is the truth: your debt before God was not reduced. It was not refinanced or postponed. It was paid in full.

On the cross, Jesus cried out "It is finished," and He meant it. That was not a cry of exhaustion. It was a declaration of total victory. Hebrews 10 paints a vivid picture of this. Old Testament priests stood and worked every single day, offering the same sacrifices over and over, because those sacrifices could never permanently deal with sin.

But Jesus offered one sacrifice for all time, and then He sat down. He sat down because there was nothing left to do. You do not have to keep making payments on a debt that no longer exists. The work is finished. The price is paid. And the One who paid it is inviting you to actually believe that today.

In what area of your life are you still acting as though you owe God a debt He has already cancelled?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for paying a debt I could never repay. Help me to stop living as though the bill is still due, and to rest in the finished work of Jesus. Amen.
