It Is Finished

Sunday Rewind is a 5-day Devotional based on the weekly sermon at Resonate Community Church

July 26th Sermon, Day 2

There is something powerful about the image of Jesus sitting down. After offering Himself as the perfect sacrifice, He sat at the right hand of the Father. Not because He was exhausted, but because the work was completely done.

Contrast that with the Old Testament priests who never sat down. There were no chairs in the tabernacle. They stood and worked, day after day, offering sacrifices that could only cover sin temporarily. The work was never finished, so they never rested. But Jesus offered Himself once. Just once. And then He sat down. That single act accomplished what thousands of animal sacrifices never could. It secured your forgiveness permanently.

Hebrews 10:14 holds two beautiful truths at the same time: you are being made holy through an ongoing journey of growth, and you have already been made perfect in your standing before God. Both are true right now. You do not have to keep striving to earn what has already been given. Growth matters, yes. But your standing before God is not based on your progress. It is based on His perfection. You can rest in that today.

Bible Verse

"For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy." - Hebrews 10:14

Reflection Question

How might your daily life look different if you truly believed your standing before God was already secure, not something you are still working to earn?

Quote

"Jesus offered Himself once, once, and then He sat down because the work was completed forever."

Prayer

Jesus, thank You for sitting down so I do not have to keep striving. Remind me today that my standing before You is based on Your finished work, not my unfinished efforts. Amen.
