God’s Not Watching From a Distance
Sunday Rewind is a 5-day Devotional based on the weekly sermon at Resonate Community Church
August 16th Sermon, Day 2
There is a difference between someone who watches over you and someone who is simply aware of you from afar. A lifeguard sitting in a tower scanning the water is watching. But a parent kneeling beside a sick child in the middle of the night, that is something else entirely.
Psalm 121 tells us that God watches over our lives, our souls. And that word "watch" carries real weight. It means God is not observing you from a comfortable distance. He is close. He is present. He is with you in the middle of whatever you are walking through right now. Your soul, the full essence of who you are, your thoughts, your emotions, your fears, your longings, none of it is hidden from Him. And none of it is too much for Him. This does not mean life will be painless. Hard seasons still come. Dark valleys are real. But you do not walk through them alone. God is not watching your struggle from somewhere far off. He is right there with you in it. That is not a small thing. That is everything.
Bible Verse
"He will not let your foot slip - he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep." - Psalm 121:3-4
Reflection Question
In your hardest moments, do you tend to feel like God is distant or present, and what might it look like to trust that He is actually close?
Quote
"You really can't watch over someone from a distance very well, can you? So that means God is with us in that space."
Prayer
Father, thank You for not watching from a distance. Help me feel Your nearness today, especially in the places where I feel most alone. Amen.
