He Knows What It Feels Like
Sunday Rewind is a 5-day Devotional based on the weekly sermon at Resonate Community Church
September 6th Sermon, Day 2
It is easy to feel like no one truly understands what you are going through. The pressure you are under, the grief you are carrying, the quiet fear that things might not get better. Those feelings are real, and they are heavy. But here is something worth sitting with today: Jesus is not offering comfort from a safe distance. He lived here. He got tired. He experienced betrayal from people He loved. He felt grief so deeply that He wept.
When He invites you to come to Him, He is not speaking as someone who has never struggled. He is speaking as someone who has walked through the full weight of human life and came out the other side. That changes things. His compassion is not theoretical. It is personal. He is not simply sympathetic to your pain. He is empathetic, because He has known pain Himself. This means you never have to wonder if Jesus "gets it." He does. Completely. And because He does, you can be honest with Him. You do not have to dress up your prayers or pretend you are doing better than you are. He already knows, and He is still saying: come. You are not alone in this. You never were.
Bible Verse
"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." - Matthew 11:29
Reflection Question
How does knowing that Jesus personally experienced hardship change the way you approach Him with your own struggles?
Quote
"Jesus isn't saying that from some kind of long distance, right? He knows what it means to live in this world like you and I live in this world."
Prayer
Lord, thank You for not staying distant from my pain. Help me to remember that You understand what I am going through, and give me the courage to be honest with You about how I am really doing.
