Seeing People, Not Catagories

September 13th Sermon, Day 4

It is remarkably easy to reduce people to their opinions. A social media post, a political position, a single comment can become the whole story we tell about someone. And once we have filed a person into a category, it is hard to see them as anything else.

But something shifts when you actually sit across from someone. You hear their story. You see the weight they carry. You notice the humanity behind the label. The person in front of you becomes more than a position. They become a person made in the image of God. This is one of the most countercultural gifts the church can offer a divided world. Not a place where everyone thinks the same, but a place where people who are genuinely different discover something greater that unites them. That unity is not built through debate. It is built through presence, patience, and the willingness to stay at the table long enough to really listen. Jesus did not stay at a distance. He came near. He sat with people. He knew their names. He is calling you to do the same. The world does not need more hot takes. It needs more people willing to truly see one another.

"For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ, we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others." - Romans 12:4-5

Reflection Question

Is there someone in your life you have reduced to a category or an opinion, and what would it look like to genuinely listen to their story this week?

Prayer

Lord, give me eyes to see people the way You see them. Soften my heart toward those who are different from me, and help me to choose presence over judgment. Amen.
