Hidden Growth

Sunday Rewind is a 5-day Devotional based on the weekly sermon at Resonate Community Church

March 29th Sermon, Day 1

Have you ever felt like your prayers are going nowhere? Like you're putting in effort but seeing no results? You're not alone. The moso bamboo tree appears dormant for four years, showing no visible growth above ground. But beneath the surface, an incredible root system is developing. Then suddenly, in just five weeks, it shoots up 90 feet tall.

This is exactly how God works in our lives. While we're praying, waiting, and taking small steps of obedience, it might feel like nothing is happening. But God is always at work beneath the surface, building foundations we can't see. Your character is being shaped, your faith is being strengthened, and your roots are growing deeper. Every whispered prayer matters. Every act of faith, even the ones no one sees, is significant.

You might feel discouraged by the lack of visible progress, but remember that transformation rarely feels dramatic in the moment. What appears to be an overnight success is usually years of hidden preparation. God's timing isn't our timing, and His methods aren't our methods. He grows our roots before He grows us up. Trust that something is happening, even when you can't see it.

Bible Verse

'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the Lord Almighty. - Zechariah 4:6

Reflection Question

What area of your life feels stagnant right now, and how might God be working beneath the surface in ways you can't see?

Quote

Now the question is, did it grow in five weeks or did it grow in five years? The answer is it was growing the entire time beneath the surface, unseen.

Prayer

Lord, help me trust Your timing and process. Give me patience to wait on You while continuing to take faithful steps forward.
