Small Beginnings Matter

Sunday Rewind is a 5-day Devotional based on the weekly sermon at Resonate Community Church

March 29th Sermon, Day 2

In our instant-gratification world, we often despise small beginnings. We want the breakthrough without the process, the miracle without the mundane. But God sees things differently. He rejoices when the work begins, no matter how small or insignificant it might appear to us. When the Israelites were rebuilding the temple, they became discouraged because their efforts seemed so small compared to Solomon's magnificent temple. But God reminded them through Zechariah that He celebrates every beginning, every first step, every small act of obedience.

Your small steps matter more than you realize. That decision to pray instead of worry, to forgive instead of hold a grudge, to serve instead of being served – these aren't insignificant moments. They're the building blocks of transformation. Don't compare your beginning to someone else's middle or end. Don't let the size of your mountain discourage you from taking the first step. God isn't looking for perfection; He's looking for willingness. He isn't impressed by our might or power, but by our availability to His Spirit. Celebrate where you are while moving toward where God is calling you. Every giant oak was once an acorn that held its ground.

Bible Verse

'Who dares despise the day of small things, since the seven eyes of the Lord that range throughout the earth will rejoice when they see the chosen capstone in the hand of Zerubbabel?' - Zechariah 4:10

Reflection Question

Prayer

Father, help me value small beginnings and trust that You can do great things through my simple obedience. Give me courage to start where I am.
