The Danger of Drifting

Sunday Rewind is a 5-day Devotional based on the weekly sermon at Resonate Community Church

September 20th Sermon, Day 3

Isolation rarely announces itself. It does not knock on the door and say, "I am here to pull you away from the people who love you." It is much quieter than that. It looks like a busy week, a skipped Sunday, a season of feeling like you just need some space. And then, before you know it, weeks have passed. The distance feels normal. Comfortable, even. This is exactly what Hebrews 10:25 is warning against.

The writer is not scolding people for missing a service here or there. He is pointing to a pattern, a slow drift away from the community that God uses to keep us grounded, growing, and accountable. Friends help us see what we cannot see about ourselves. They notice when we are struggling before we are ready to admit it. They speak truth when we need it most. But they can only do that if we are present and reachable. If you have drifted, there is no shame in that. Life is hard, and seasons happen. But today is a good day to take one small step back toward community. Reach out to someone. Show up somewhere. Let yourself be known again. God uses people to strengthen people. Do not let comfort keep you from the connections He has for you.

Bible Verse

"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching." - Hebrews 10:24-25

Reflection Question

Is there an area of your life where isolation has quietly become comfortable, and what is one honest step you could take toward reconnecting with community?

Quote

"Isolation has a way of becoming comfortable."

Prayer

God, show me where I have drifted and give me the courage to take a step back toward the people You have placed in my life. I do not want comfort to cost me connection. Amen.
