Should That Someone Be Me?

Sunday Rewind is a 5-day Devotional based on the weekly sermon at Resonate Community Church

October 4th Sermon, Day 4

It is one of the most natural thoughts in the world. You see a need, you feel a pang of concern, and then you think, "Someone should really help them." And just like that, the moment passes and you move on. But what if that thought was not just an observation? What if it was an invitation? What if God was nudging you specifically because He wanted you to be the one to respond? It is way too easy to say someone should help. It is harder to say, "I am going to be the one to do it."

That shift, from observer to participant, is where faith gets real. It is also where it gets uncomfortable. Because stepping in means giving something: your time, your energy, your resources, or simply your attention. But here is the encouraging truth. You are not being asked to fix everything. You are being asked to do something. One person. One need. One action. That is a manageable, meaningful, and deeply faithful response to what God has placed in front of you. Before you move on from this moment, pause and ask yourself the question honestly. Is there a need you have noticed recently where God might be calling you to stop waiting for someone else and simply step in yourself? That question, taken seriously, can change someone's life.

Bible Verse

"By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." - John 13:35

Reflection Question

What is one need you have seen recently where you defaulted to thinking someone else would handle it, and what is stopping you from being that person?

Quote

"It's way too easy to say, you know, someone should help them. It's harder to say, I'm going to be the one to do it."

Prayer

Father, give me eyes to see the needs around me and the courage to stop waiting for someone else to act. Use me today in a simple but meaningful way. Amen.
