Making Room

Sunday Rewind is a 5-day Devotional based on the weekly sermon at Resonate Community Church

October 18th Sermon, Day 3

When we think about generosity, we often jump straight to money. But generosity is much bigger than what is in your bank account. It includes your time, your attention, your patience, and something that costs more than we often admit: your willingness to simply make room. Making room looks different for everyone. It might mean slowing down your schedule to sit with a friend who is struggling. It might mean listening without rushing to fix. It might mean inviting someone into your space, your table, or your life when it would be easier to keep things comfortable and contained.

God’s heart has always been for people to be seen and included, not pushed to the margins. In Deuteronomy 15, He made it clear that poverty was never meant to become a permanent, invisible condition. His people were called to actively prevent that by being generous and present. You may not be able to solve someone’s problem. But you can make room for them. And sometimes, that is exactly what a person needs most. The question is not always whether you have enough to give. The first question is whether you are willing to create space. Generosity often begins not with opening your wallet, but with opening your life.

Bible Verse

"Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to." - Deuteronomy 15:10

Reflection Question

Is there someone in your life right now who does not need your money or your advice, but simply needs you to make room for them?

Quote

"So often, helping somebody means just making room."

Prayer

God, show me where I have kept my life too full and too closed for others to enter. Give me a generous Spirit that makes room for the people You place in my path. Amen.
