Ordinary Jars, Extraordinary Treasure

August 9th Sermon, Day 1

Have you ever felt too ordinary, too broken, or too weak to be used by God? You are not alone. Most of us look at our lives and see the cracks, the limitations, the places where we feel like we simply do not measure up. But here is the beautiful truth: that is exactly where God does His best work.

Paul describes believers as jars of clay. In his day, clay jars were common, cheap, and fragile. Nobody displayed them in a place of honor. They were everyday containers. And yet Paul says God intentionally places His most priceless treasure, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, inside people just like you and me. Why would God do that? So that when people see something extraordinary coming from an ordinary life, they know the power belongs to Him and not to us.

You do not have to be impressive. You do not have to have it all together. God is not looking for perfect containers. He is looking for willing ones. Your weakness is not a disqualifier. It is actually an invitation for His strength to show up in ways that leave no doubt about who deserves the credit. You carry something priceless inside you. Not because of who you are, but because of Whose you are.

In what area of your life have you been waiting to feel "good enough" before letting God use you?

Lord, thank You for choosing ordinary people to carry Your extraordinary message. Help me stop waiting to feel worthy and simply trust that Your power is enough. Amen.

Peace is a Person

August 2nd Sermon, Day 5

We spend so much energy looking for peace in the right place, the right relationship, the right achievement. But peace was never hiding in any of those things. It has always been found in a person. Jesus said it plainly: peace I leave with you, my peace I give you. And He made clear that His peace is nothing like what the world offers. The world gives temporary relief. Jesus gives something that holds even when everything around you is falling apart.

Leah's story ends with a quiet but stunning detail. Her son Judah became the ancestor of Jesus Christ Himself. The woman who felt unwanted, overlooked, and unloved was woven directly into the story of the world's redemption. Her disappointments were not wasted. God wrote hope into her heartache. Your story is not over either. No matter how messy it looks right now, God specializes in redemption. He is not waiting for your life to be tidy before He shows up. He is already here, already working, already inviting you to stop striving and simply abide in Him. The peace you have been searching for has a name. His name is Jesus.

What would it practically look like for you to stop striving for peace and instead abide in Jesus this week?

Jesus, thank You for being my peace. Help me stop searching for it everywhere else and simply stay close to You, trusting that You are enough. Amen.

The Turning Point

August 2nd Sermon, Day 4

For three sons, Leah kept her eyes fixed on Jacob. Then something shifted. At the birth of her fourth son, Judah, she said something different. She did not mention Jacob at all. She simply said, this time I will praise the Lord.

Nothing around her had changed. Jacob still loved Rachel more. Her circumstances were still hard. But Leah stopped striving and started worshiping. And those five words marked a turning point in her story. That same turning point is available to you. Worship is not something you do when life is going well. It is something you choose when life is hard and you decide to trust God anyway. It is the moment you stop white-knuckling your circumstances and open your hands to the One who holds them.

Leah's peace did not arrive when her situation improved. It arrived when her heart surrendered. That is not a small thing. That is everything. Your turning point might be closer than you think. It could start with five simple words of your own: this time, I will praise.

What would it look like for you to choose worship today, not because your circumstances have improved, but because you trust the God who sees you?

The Trap of Chasing Approval

Leah named her first three sons with one hope in mind: that Jacob would finally love her. Each name was a quiet prayer that this time, things would be different. This time, he would see her.

It is easy to judge that kind of striving until you recognize it in yourself. How often do we work harder, perform better, or change who we are just to earn someone's approval? And how often does it actually deliver the peace we were hoping for? Approval is a moving target. People's opinions shift. Circumstances change. Building your sense of worth on what others think of you is exhausting, and it never holds.

God, on the other hand, never changes. His love for you is not based on your performance. It is not withdrawn when you fail. Locating your identity in Him is not just a nice idea. It is the only foundation that will actually hold. You do not have to keep chasing. You are already seen. You are already loved. That is not something you earn. It is something you receive.

Whose approval are you working hardest to earn right now, and how is that pursuit affecting your sense of peace?

Prayer

God, I confess that I have looked to others to tell me I am enough. Teach me to receive my worth from You, and free me from the exhausting cycle of chasing approval. Amen.

Leah's life was painful in ways most of us can relate to. She was overlooked by her husband, used by her Father, and constantly compared to her sister. If anyone had reason to feel invisible, it was her. But Scripture tells us something that changes everything. When the Lord saw that Leah was not loved, He enabled her to conceive. Her circumstances were hard. The people around her failed her. But God saw her completely.

That same truth applies to you today. Before anyone noticed you, God already did. Before anyone valued you, God already loved you. Before anyone called your name, God knew it. You may be in a season where you feel unseen. Maybe a relationship has left you feeling overlooked. Maybe you have poured yourself into something and received nothing in return. Take heart. The God who saw Leah in her pain sees you in yours. You are not invisible to Him. You never have been. And that changes everything about how you can face today.
