July 19th Sermon, Day 2
There is a deeply human instinct that kicks in when we feel like we have failed. We scramble. We try harder. We make promises. We tell ourselves that if we can just get our act together, then maybe God will be pleased with us again. But that instinct, as natural as it feels, is built on a lie. It assumes God works like the rest of the world, that love and favor must be earned, that grace has a price tag. It does not. And He does not.
Psalm 103 paints a breathtaking picture of just how far God's love and forgiveness actually reach. As high as the heavens are above the earth. As far as the east is from the west. That is not a small, conditional forgiveness. That is an overwhelming, permanent, all-encompassing grace. You do not have to keep swimming against the current. The rescue ring is already there. It has been there. God is not asking you to prove yourself. He is asking you to trust Him enough to let go of your own striving and receive what He has already provided.
Today, notice the moments when you default to self-rescue. When you feel the urge to earn, perform, or punish yourself into worthiness, pause. Remind yourself: the work is already done.
Bible Verse
"For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us." - Psalm 103:11-12
Reflection Question
What does your default response to failure reveal about what you truly believe about God's grace?
Quote
"All the while God is saying, stop trying to save yourself. You don't need to prove yourself to me. I've already come for you long ago. Reach out and receive the grace that I have freely given."
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for the times I have trusted my own effort more than Your finished work. Teach me to rest in what You have already done and to stop trying to save myself. Amen.
You Are Already Rescued

July 19th Sermon, Day 1
Most of us know, at least in our heads, that God forgives. But knowing it and actually trusting it are two very different things. If you have ever caught yourself thinking, "I need to get my life together before God can really love me," you are not alone. That struggle is as old as humanity itself.
Here is the truth that changes everything: God's forgiveness is not a reward waiting at the finish line for those who perform well enough. It is a rescue extended to people who are drowning. And every single one of us is drowning without it. Paul writes in Colossians 1 with striking confidence. He does not say God will qualify you or might rescue you. He says God has already done it. Past tense. Completed. Through Jesus Christ, you have been brought out of darkness and into the kingdom of His Son.
That is not a future hope. It is your present reality. You do not have to earn your way to grace. You do not have to punish yourself until you feel worthy of it. The rescue has already happened. All that is left is to reach out and receive it. If you have been exhausting yourself trying to prove something to God, take a breath today. He is not waiting for you to get it together. He already came for you.
Bible Verse
"For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins." - Colossians 1:13-14
Reflection Question
In what area of your life are you still trying to earn something from God that He has already freely given you?
Quote
"God's forgiveness isn't a reward for those who can stay afloat. We can't stay afloat on our own. The truth is, every last one of us will drown. God's forgiveness is not the reward. It is the rescue that we all desperately need."
Prayer
Father, thank You for rescuing me before I ever had the strength to rescue myself. Help me to stop striving and start receiving the grace You have already given through Jesus. Amen.
The Power Behind Love

July 12th Sermon, Day 5
Jesus was falsely accused. He was mocked, betrayed by His closest friends, and nailed to a cross He did not deserve. And as He hung there, He prayed for the people who put Him there. Father, forgive them. That is not human nature. That is divine grace.
Here is what makes that moment so significant for us: He did not do it through sheer willpower. He did it in the power of the Holy Spirit. And because He did it that way, the same power is available to you. Loving people who are hard to love is not something you are supposed to figure out on your own. It is not a personality trait some people have and others do not. It is something you receive. When you place your faith in Jesus Christ and allow Him to work in you, He cleanses the heart, renews the mind, and reshapes what you desire. Kindness begins to flow not because you are forcing it, but because He is filling you.
Every time you respond to harshness with gentleness, to insults with prayer, to evil with good, you are not just being a nice person. You are showing the world that something has changed in you. You are showing them that Jesus Christ is real, and that He is at work. That is a powerful witness. And it starts with simply saying yes to what He is already offering you.
Bible Verse
"Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless." - James 1:26
Reflection Question
When you consider the way Jesus responded to those who wronged Him, what is one area of your life where you sense God inviting you to respond differently than you have been?
Quote
"He was falsely accused. He was mocked. He was beaten. He was betrayed by his friends. He was nailed to a cross he didn't deserve. And as he hung there, he prayed, Father, please forgive them. That's not human nature. That's divine grace."
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for showing me what grace under pressure actually looks like. Fill me with Your Spirit today so that what flows out of me reflects You, not my own hurt or pride. Amen.
Faith That Actually Does Something

July 12th Sermon, Day 4
It is easy to sit with truth. It is much harder to live it out. James made this point directly: do not just listen to the word and walk away unchanged. Do what it says. Faith that stays in your head and never reaches your hands is not really doing its job.
This is where things get practical. Loving your enemies is not just a feeling you work up on a Sunday morning. It shows up on a Tuesday afternoon when a coworker takes credit for your work. It shows up in traffic. It shows up at the dinner table when a family member says something that stings. Those ordinary, unglamorous moments are not interruptions to your faith. They are the place where your faith is actually tested and proven real. Genuine faith moves us toward people who are hurting, even when those people are the ones who hurt us.
The encouraging truth is that you do not have to be perfect at this. You just have to be willing. Willing to pause before you react. Willing to pray for someone instead of venting about them. Willing to let God's grace show up through you in the small moments. Every act of grace, no matter how small, is a sign that something has changed on the inside. And that is worth celebrating.
Bible Verse
"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." - James 1:22
Reflection Question
What is one specific situation in your life right now where you know what the right response is, but you have been hesitating to actually do it?
Quote
"Those moments as mundane as they might look. That's actually your mission field. That's where God's grace shows up. Not just in church, but at the dinner table, in the office, on the phone, behind the steering wheel."
Prayer
Lord, help me to be a doer and not just a listener. Give me the courage to act on what I know is true, even when it is uncomfortable, and remind me that Your grace is with me in every ordinary moment. Amen.
Watch Your Words

July 12th Sermon, Day 3
Think about the biggest wounds you carry. Chances are, most of them came from someone's mouth. A careless sentence. A harsh word spoken in anger. Something said years ago that you still hear on repeat.
Words are powerful, and James knew it. He urged believers to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. That is a simple instruction, but it cuts right to the heart of how we treat people every single day. James also pointed out that if anyone considers themselves religious but does not keep a tight rein on their tongue, their faith is not doing what it is supposed to do.
Our words reveal what is actually going on inside us. If bitterness is in the heart, bitterness eventually comes out of the mouth. Here is the flip side of that truth: when God is doing real work in your heart, your words begin to change too. You start to respond with patience where you used to snap. You choose gentleness where you used to go for the sharp comeback. Every conversation is an opportunity. An opportunity to wound or to heal, to tear down or to build up. You have more influence than you realize, and it often shows up in the smallest, most ordinary moments. Those moments are not insignificant. They are your mission field.
Bible Verse
"My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry." - James 1:19
Reflection Question
If the people closest to you described the tone of your words this past week, what would they say, and what might that reveal about what is in your heart right now?
Quote
"Think about the biggest wounds you have in your life. I'm pretty sure for most of us, the weapons of those wounds came out of somebody else's mouth. A careless sentence can wound somebody for years."
Prayer
God, guard my mouth today. Remind me that my words carry weight, and help me to use them to reflect Your grace rather than my frustration. Amen.
